Performance testing requires formal documentation so regulators can verify that tests were conducted properly and met the required criteria. A written record provides the official evidence: what was tested, how it was tested, the conditions, equipment used, results, any deviations, calibration details, and who performed the test. The authority having jurisdiction must be able to access this record to review compliance during inspections or audits; it isn’t enough for the engineer alone to keep notes.
